WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 21st...

Sorry I have not updated yet this week!  I was out on Monday with my First grader who had Strep throat and today my 3 year old came down with it at pre-school.  Luckily, I have my mom to help me with my girls. She will be helping me tomorrow and Friday so I don't miss another day of work.

IT'S COLLEGE WEEK!!!  I went to Texas Woman's University! We have been talking about college and careers all week!

Reading binders came home last Thursday.  I hope you are enjoying them with your child.  Please make sure you read every night for 10 to 15 minutes.  I have added new books this week.  And we are starting to meet in our Guided Reading groups.  If the binder is lost or damaged, I will have to ask that you contact me to replace it.  I explained to the kids that they only get one and then the next one will be there parents' responsibility to buy.  They are VERY excited about their binders.

NEWS FOR THE WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 14th...

We are having so much fun in 1st Grade!  I am enjoying every moment during the day with your child!  They truly are a bright group of kiddos.  I sent math homework home today for Tuesday night and Thursday night.  Please return it on Friday morning.  I realize that I have a great deal of working parents in my classroom and I know how challenging it can be for homework to come home one night and be due the very next day.  I'm a working mom too!!!!  With that said, please just return the work on Fridays!!!!

We started math tubs last week and the kids really have been enjoying them.  We focus on reviewing what we have been learning in class for math tubs and it is a great way for them to feel more secure in what they are learning in whole group and small group math time.   Literacy Centers started today and they DID EXCELLENT!!!!  I was so proud of them.

This week we are focusing on:
Math- sets of 10 and UPS CHECK
Language Arts - "ide" chunk, Poetry, and our spelling words are and, have and I
Reading- We are learning strategies.  Books are coming home this week.  But some of them I have not had a chance to read with them.  Please read with your child every night.
S.S. - It is Constitution Week.  We are also learning about about how to be a good Citizen.
Science- We are still studying the 5 senses.  PLEASE DON'T FORGET THE 5 SENSES BAG DUE THIS WEEK!!!!

REMINDERS:
PLEASE DON'T FORGET TO SIGN UP FOR A CONFERENCE ON OCTOBER 12th... DO NOT FORGET TO SEND YOUR 5 PACK OF WHITE T-SHIRTS WITH YOUR CHILD'S NAME WRITTEN ON THE COLLAR!!!!!
